The IPAF PAL+ (PAL Plus) is a new optional, one day training programme designed for operatives involved in high risk or difficult terrain. It is category specific and additional to standard operator training.
Reset Training Solutions can arrange IPAF Scissor and Boom training for delegates at one of many partner centres throughout the UK. If suitable machines are available on site it may be possible to deliver training at that location – please call for details.

The IPAF PAL Plus (PAL+) course combines a short, concentrated theoretical session with more practical training, utilising larger equipment, for example scissor lifts with a minimum of 10 metre working height and a cherry picker with a minimum of 15 metre working height. The practical exercises are of a more challenging nature than standard IPAF training.
Upon successful completion of the course, operatives can add the relevant machine categories to their existing PAL card. For example: Static Vertical (1a+), Static Boom (1b+), Mobile Vertical (3a+) and Mobile Boom (3b+).
The IPAF PAL+ qualification is valid for five years. As the course is intended to be more advanced, challenging and extensive, candidates must have first done the operator course. However, when you have completed it you can refresh it as a PAL + without the need to re-do the operator’s course providing you have sufficient entries in the log book and it is refreshed before the expiry date.
It is not advisable for inexperienced operators to do both courses back-to-back.
The course has been developed to assist already trained operators whose work may involve higher than normal risk situations e.g. steelwork, work in overhead confined spaces and operating MEWPS in rough and challenging environments.
A new card will be issued to successful candidates showing the achievements in the form of a plus sign after each relevant category. A major benefit of this course is that it demonstrates to site managers and employers that the holder of the card has gained additional experience in the operation of MEWPS in challenging environments at an advanced level.
One exercise looks at working in an overhead confined space, whilst another example involves driving a MEWP on rough ground. In addition to completing the theory and practical tests, successful delegates must pass an individual interview.
As the course is intended to be more advanced, challenging and extensive, candidates must have first done the operator course.
